Having a child is a life changing experience. There is no way to prepare for everything! However, I will always remember my Babymoon :-)
I went to the Ritz Carlton, Kapalua when I was 6 months pregnant. I wanted a destination that would be as close to my home amenities as possible. In other words, I wanted to travel somewhere that did not require a passport!! It was necessary to have a hospital in close proximity. It was equally important to not have to worry about another language.
The easiest destination from where I live (West Coast) was Hawaii. I decided on Maui. I wanted the best beaches and a resort that was secluded. And of course a spa with Pre-natal massage! My husband and I packed up and off we went. I worried about saving the money for other bills. and baby 'stuff' that was still on my to-do list. But, let me tell you it was the best thing we did!! The bills will still be there, the baby 'stuff' will always be needed.
Not only was it our last vacation just the two of us, it was the last time I was able to go anywhere with just one piece of luggage and a carry on all to myself. We enjoyed spending time together, talking about our honeymoon, and each other. Soon, our conversations would only be related to the baby.
Looking back, over a year later, we laugh about the times we shared. We enjoy the pictures, and marvel at my pregnancy which now is a drooling, babbling, laughing, wonderful miracle. When times are tough (teething), and you just don't know how to get through another sleepless night, you can think back to that vacation and smile. Sometimes that is all you need to rejuvenate yourself. It helps me to see what we had, and now what we have, and be thankful.
A Babymoon is a new chapter in your life, it should be celebrated!
I would not remember which bill I would have paid instead of taking a Babymoon, but I can remember how that fruit salad tasted on the beach at the Ritz!
